blooming in the garden

This summer I spent a lot of time growing blooms and bites in my garden! It’s been so exciting to pick something almost daily whether it’s berries off the bush, veggies off the vine or flowers in the yard- it’s added the sweetest joys to my summer.

At the end of summer now I can look back and appreciate all the hard work that went into this and all the beauty I got to watch grow! In the beginning though, everything felt very overwhelming, so much to do and not sure where to start. But bit by bit things started to come together. I am so appreciative of my mom taking the time to help me put together the raised beds of veggies and fill out the hammock hang out area. I’m also grateful for so many blooms given to me by Pam from her own garden. Here’s a little before and after of the space.

I worked hard on creating a perennial garden around the deck for blooms to come back year after year. It is filled with iris’, evening primrose, daisys, black eyed susan, cone flower, cat mint, lily’s and many more. I dug in stone steps to lead around the gardens to the deck. I made a patch for the dahlia’s to grow which are beginning their blooms now.

I have found a lot of inspiration in the colors of my gardens this summer… from veggies to flowers there has been a wild range of colors and patterns. Sweet sun gold tomatoes, crunchy cucumbers, luscious lettuce + kale, zesty herbs, juicy berries, and crazy zucchinis were some of the treats I was able to taste this year! The bright colors of these goodies helped inspire my garden colorway + collection.

One of my favorite parts of the summer garden has been a big wildflower patch in the front.. we had a tree that had fallen last summer and got taken away. There was a big dirt patch left there this year and so I decided to do some “chaos gardening” aka throwing wildflowers seeds all over the place and seeing what happens. To my sweet surprise so many blooms started to grow and by August I couldn’t believe my eyes. sunflowers taller than me, cosmos dancing in every direction, bachelor buttons that are lasting forever and zinnias adding an extra punch of vibrant hues.

The colors from these blooms helped inspire my in full bloom collection. Like walking through a field of flowers on a sunny morning...a collection of deep purples, pops of pinks, golden yellows and bright blues hand dyed on silks.

I wasn’t the only one to enjoy the garden this summer…
