fall foliage in vermont

a look at the inspiration behind the foliage pieces from exploring beautiful Vermont

After a busy summer I decided to take the first week of October off to relax and recharge. Lucky me, it was one of the most beautiful weeks I’ve had in Vermont. The temps were in the high 70s and felt like summer while the colors were peak foliage of fall. It was a unique delight I took full advantage of… swimming daily, hiking and exploring new parts of the state.

The Waterbury Reservoir is one of my favorite places and we had the place to ourselves. Paddled out to elephant rock and spent an afternoon soaking in the sun, jumping in the water and oogling at the leaves.

We hiked to Libby’s Lookout from the Preston Pond Loop trailhead in Jericho. You get a lot of bang for your buck with this one, the views are amazing and you can shorten/lengthen it to your liking.

The colors along the trail and on top were insane, especially against the bright blue skies.

We took a 24 hour getaway to the Upper Valley region of Vermont. We got the sweetest little airbnb on a pond in the middle of the woods and spent the day at Silver Lake state park swimming and reading. That evening we had a very yummy dinner at Sante in Woodstock and came back to the cabin to have a campfire, watch the stars from the floating dock and watch Dead Poets Society. We explored Woodstock more the next day, it was very picturesque New England and totally packed with tourists from all over the world. We explored the Quechee Gorge and hiked down along the water dipping our feet in at the bottom. I feel grateful to live in such a beautiful state with so many special corners to be explored.

Some of my favorite stops & treats for a taste of the season…

  • Pumpkin spice creemee from Red Hen

  • Soup & squash from Roots Farm Market

  • Apples & dreamees (creemee, cider donut, apple pie filling) from Yates Orchard
