Mono Lake + Silver Lake

"October 30/Day 30

Almost a full month on this adventure.  It feels like such a way of life, so natural right now.  We’re back on the road, giving Yosemite a second shot after it being full this weekend.  We stayed outside the park at Silver Lake, near Mono lake- this crazy 760,000 year old lake with tufa towers everywhere.  The campsite was beautiful surrounded by big rock mountains and a lake at one end.  It was really cold the two nights we were there, getting to 26 degrees.  There was frost covering everything in the morning but hit 70’s during the day.

We did a crazy steep hike last night that was across from the campground.  We left at like 4:15 and the sun was setting.  As we came down, the mountains were all lit up pink from the sky and we had a perfect view of Silver Lake.  It was one of the most beautiful hikes because of the lighting but of course the last 10 minutes were in the dark.  We didn’t make dinner because I had insanely good fish tacos at Whoah Neli Deli in the Mobile gas station.  So random and soo delicious, they were huge.  I had read about Mono Lake and the deli in one of Barbara’s travel magazines last week."
